Before you jump to Slow Cooker Lasagna recipe, you may want to read this short interesting healthy tips about Finding Nutritious Fast Food.

Just about any article you read about restoring your health or weight loss is going to tell you to ignore the drive through and cook all of your meals instead. This is certainly good advice. But occasionally the last thing you want to do is make a whole dinner for yourself and your family. Once in a while you just want to check out the drive through while you’re on your way home and complete the day. There is zero reason that you shouldn’t be able to do this once in a while and be free of the guilt usually associated with “diet slips”. This is because many of the popular fast food restaurants around are trying to “healthy up” their selections. Here is how to eat healthy when you hit the drive through.

Choose a drive through for a restaurant which is known for catering to people with better palates. For instance, Arby’s does not offer hamburgers. Instead, your options include roast beef and chicken sandwiches, wraps and big salads. Wendy’s, although no stranger to the hamburger, also includes an abundance of other meal choices: large salads, large baked potatoes and other tasty items fill its menu. Most fast food eating places do not stoop to the harmful lows seen at McDonalds.

Simple sense states that the best way to lose weight and get healthy is to ban fast food from your diet altogether. While, for the most part, this is a good idea, if you make smart choices, there is no reason to feel guilty for visiting a drive through one or two times a month. Sometimes what you need most is just to have someone else do the cooking. There isn’t any reason to feel terrible about visiting the drive through when you make healthy and balanced decisions!

Instructions to make Slow Cooker Lasagna:
  1. Grease your slow cooker well and set aside. In a large skillet heat the olive oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the onions and the beef. Cook and break up the beef until it is no longer pink. Drain any excess fat, if needed.
  2. Stir in the garlic and let it cook until fragrant, just a minute or so. Then stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, water, sugar and seasonings. Let this simmer for 5-10 minutes just to let the flavors meld together. Then remove it from the heat and set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, mix the ricotta, egg, seasonings, mozzarella cheese and parmesan cheese. Set that aside.
  4. In the bottom of the slow cooker, spread about 1 cup of sauce…more if needed to completely coat the bottom. Place 2-3 of the lasagna noodles over the meat sauce, breaking them up to fit as best you can.
  5. Place about a third of the ricotta mixture over the noodles and spread it all over.
  6. Repeat this process. I get 3 layers altogether. After the last layer of ricotta mixture, spread over the last of the meat sauce. Top with the 1 cup of mozzarella cheese and the 1/2 cup of parmesan cheese. At this point you could always place the lid on and store it in the fridge until ready to cook.
  7. Cook on low for 4-6 hours, or until the noodles are tender. Then scoop it out the best you can and serve immediately.
