The ingredients needed to cook Meen Pollichathu:
  1. Get Ingredients -
  2. Take 2 pomfret fish
  3. Get 3 tbsp. coconut oil
  4. Get 1 tsp. coriander leaves, chopped
  5. Prepare 1 banana leaf cut into half
  6. Take Marination -
  7. You need 1 tsp. ginger-garlic paste
  8. Take to taste salt
  9. You need 1/2 tsp. turmeric powder
  10. Take 1 tsp. coriander powder
  11. Get 2-3 tsp. red chili powder
  12. You need 1/2 tsp. pepper powder
  13. Use 1 tsp. lemon juice
  14. You need 1 tbsp. coconut oil
  15. Use Curry -
  16. Use 1 tbsp. coconut oil
  17. Provide 1/2 tsp. mustard seeds
  18. Use 1 tsp. ginger, chopped
  19. Get 1-2 onions, chopped
  20. Get 2-3 green chilies, chopped
  21. Take 1 sprig curry leaves
  22. Get 1 tsp. garlic, chopped
  23. Prepare 1 tomato, chopped
  24. Use to taste salt
  25. Get 1 tsp. coriander powder
  26. Provide 1 tsp. red chili powder
  27. Provide 1/2 tsp. turmeric powder
  28. Get 1/4 cup tamarind juice
  29. You need 1/2 tsp. pepper powder
  30. Get 2 tbsp, fresh grated coconut
Steps to make Meen Pollichathu:
  1. Clean the fish and make few slits on both the sides. Keep aside. In a small bowl, mix all the above mentioned ingredients for the marination.
  2. Apply the marination on both sides of the fish and keep aside for 25-30 minutes. Heat 2 tbsp. oil in a pan and fry the marinated fish on both sides till done. Keep aside. Drain and keep aside.
  3. For the curry, add 1 tbsp. oil in another pan and temper with mustard seeds. After it stops spluttering, add the chopped onion, ginger, garlic, green chilies and curry leaves. Saute till light brown.
  4. Add tomatoes & saute till it is nicely mashed.
  5. Add all dry spices & mix well.
  6. Then add coconut & tamarind juice. Give it a stir. Saute till dry. Keep aside.
  7. Grease the leaf with a few drops of oil & spread some onion mix.
  8. Place the fish over it. Spread some more of the mix over other side of - the fish. (both sides of the fish should be well coated with the masala.
  9. Wrap the fish with banana leaf & tie with a string.
  10. Heat remaining oil & place wrapped banana parcels on it. Cover & cook one side for 3-4 minutes, before flipping it over to cook the other side too.
  11. Garnish with coriander leaves & serve with hot steamed rice.
